Today was one of my long days at Roswell. Chris was able to take off work to spend the day with me. I had my blood counts checked, saw the doctor, and was hooked up to my sixth and last cycle of chemo! I will continue to change my own bags and will be unhooked Tuesday. A CT scan is scheduled for 4/19 and a final dr. appt 4/26 (one day before the benefit) just to confirm that the cancer is gone. I will return 3 months later for another scan. I won’t need to get another claustrophobic PET scan either nor will I have to go to Roswell twice a week. I was hoping to get my mediport removed soon after treatment was finished but they told me that they typically leave it in for awhile in case something is needed post treatment. I will have to go to Roswell every 6-8 wks to get my mediport flushed. The doctors originally said I will be out of work until May 31st but agreed to fax something to my work saying I can return May 13th! It was nice leaving Roswell today knowing that I will not need to go back for Rituxin either. Also, I will not need 10 days of neupogen shots as the doctor explained that this is to prepare my body for the next cycle of treatment. Instead, on Wednesday they will be giving me one shot of neulasta which does the same thing. I am so excited to get back to the “real world” and grow some hair back! I wanted to thank everyone for all the love and support during this journey. Although I will be feeling pretty sick for the next two weeks, I expect it will be a lot more manageable knowing this is the final cycle!
